About Jen...

Thanks for checking in to learn more about me.  I love my life and seriously feel really blessed!  Photography is a passion of mine and it definitely continues to challenge me to push the envelope more and more.  I have been photographing weddings and families for more than 10 years and feel incredibly blessed to do what I love surrounded by those that I love!!  I am a mom to three and married to the love of my life.  I've chosen to work from home and while often challenging, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have 2 boys and one little girl.  Brennan is almost 7 and is my little red head.  People LOVE his red hair. Though he started out with the fiery personality I carried as a youngster, he's grown up to be quite the respectful child who has a love of learning. Dawson is a middle child...need I say more?  He's a tender hearted almost 4 year old whose main method of communication is the perpetual whine.  He has an infectious smile that sure makes it hard to put the camera down around him.  Emery is our little girl who is 1 year old.  She's super laid back and easily entertained...the complete opposite of both her brothers.  She is loved by all the boys in our house but wants only to be with Mommy...and after a couple of Daddy's boys, I'm really ok with that!  My husband and I will be married 10 years this year.  I can hardly believe it's been that long.  He too has a job that he loves in Real Estate Development.  He's very supportive of me in my business and really helpful with the technical side of things (he insists he's even taught me a little Photoshop here and there...I beg to differ).  If there's anything he'd change about my job...it's all the romance I'm around that he has to compete with!!  I'm a hopeless romantic for sure!  But he has some of that in him too, it just tends to go into hiding sometimes!

My family is the most important thing to me and is definitely the reason I love photography so much.  I can't describe the satisfaction I get in capturing wonderful moments for people who are be able to keep them as memories forever.  I truly am grateful that I can have a career working for so many amazing people during some of their most intimate life moments.

In the bag...

I use only the highest quality cameras and lenses!  My main camera is the Canon 5d Mark II.  It is a full frame camera with over 21 megapixels and an expanded ISO range from 50 up to 25,600.  WOW!!  This is cutting edge camera technology...at least for the moment!  I also use only Canon "L" series lenses.  The "L" stand for luxury and man does it ever live up to its name!  Aside from giving me a good arm workout, these lenses have low dispersion glass and are some of the fastest lenses available.  While I typically prefer the wide aperture and great depth of field offered by the 70-200 f 2.8 lens, I also have a handful of other great lenses...

17-40mm f 4.0 USM                                                                                                     28-70mm f 2.8 USM                                                                                                   35mm f 1.4 USM                                                                                                              I also have a Canon 580EX and 580EXII Speedlight.

For Editing I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Maternity Session

A couple of weeks ago I did this amazing maternity session including a little “Maternity Boudoir” for this mom on her last baby. She was carrying child #4, 36 weeks and looks absolutely STUNNING!  Yes…we can all hate her now! =)

I’ve included a few of the images in this post but I’ve added a password protected post below for those who would like to see more images.  All of the images are done very tastefully with absolutely gorgeous light, (thanks for your help Marnee).  I love how the images show off her beautiful belly. I think that pregnancy is so beautiful and I really love how these images turned out.  I think they are artistic, unique, sexy and yet tasteful.  What do you think?

If you’d like to view the images enter the password boudoir.

Needler Family Photos

In my quest for “catching up” on editing I am working on editing and posting some of my recent family shoots from just before Christmas! Here is the Needler family! They wanted to do a photo together before one of them moves out of state to Alaska, so we were able to get some great shots of their family. Here are some of the photos we got…

This is Justin and Annie, the ones moving to Alaska! Their baby Gage is SO CUTE!
I love how happy and smily Gage was despite the freezing cold weather we had to contend with! I loved these curls, she looks so cute!!
Here’s a cute shot of Alisa and her family. Alisa is a good friend and definitely rates up there as one of my favorite people! Here’s Morgan, she really loves her grandpa and let him take over walking her around!
And this cute shot of CUTE COUSINS!!!

The toothfairy rides on Santa’s Sleigh!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it is true that on Christmas Eve, the toothfairy rides along with Santa for all of her visits as well =) So Christmas came and what a CRAZY & FUN few days it was…not to mention BUSY and TIRING! We spent Christmas Eve at my sisters sharing a wonderful turkey, ham and all the fixings meal and playing games, reading stories about the Savior and His birth and of course the “christmas eve one present opening” jammie tradition so many share! But this year was a little different, Brennan had his FIRST very, very LOOSE tooth! This is new ground for us and guess what I learned? I learned I am in this ALONE! My very strong, very handy husband is apparently VERY SQUEAMISH about teeth! Surprising as he does fine with cuts and bruises, diapers don’t bother him ONE bit and he’s been a GREAT coach in the birth of our two boys, but who would’ve known that teeth can make this man want to vomit in one second flat? So, Brennan was anxious for this loose tooth to be freed so he could eat easier and Reuben was begging me to “not ruin his dinner” by pulling the tooth when we had such a nice meal to eat, and no I wasn’t making him be a part of it at ALL! He was just on the sidelines, in the room as we dealt with the drama! Here are a few pics of Brennan trying SO hard to be BRAVE despite it hurting him so bad!
Brennan insisted his Aunt Jessica do the duty, which I of course didn’t argue, apparently she has pulled two of my niece Hannah’s teeth so he felt she’d do the best job at it! And for the record… we did not FORCE him into this and we did give him breaks a few times…I guess you really do have to EARN that money you get from the toothfairy! We let him eat dinner and told him to just move it on his own and sure enough a couple of hours later, he came running in to me, toothless and so excited it was out! He had pulled his own first tooth! The only problem? Where was the tooth? He pulled it at the sink, in front of the mirror so we assumed it was long gone down the drain & Uncle Tim and Papa wouldn’t accept that, the tools were out and the drain was about to come apart…thankfully I did a carpet search and found it before we spent a lot of time trying to disassemble the sink! Here is the cute toothless boy now!
Now onto Christmas morning! We got to slip into bed in the wee hours of 4am after being housecleaners, present wrappers, Santa and toothfairy, and it wasn’t 5 minutes of us in bed that our 2yr old came running in, sick with a fever and really worked up over a dream! After about 10minutes of him literally “seeing” and grabbing for bugs and animals he insisted were in our room (hallucinations w/fevers? this was a new one for me), we finally settled for a few hours of broken up sleep with a sick, restless toddler! The morning was great despite the lack of sleep! Here’s Brennan proudly sporting his money that after reviewing the photos again CLEARLY wasn’t enough!
And the cute brothers waiting for Daddy to get moving so we would let them see what Santa brought…
And yes honey…this photo and their first expressions IS WORTH blocking off all the laid out gifts the night before so I can catch it on camera!! So get used to the idea, we WILL keep this tradition! No, I am NOT bitter that I was left to do this part alone as he quickly told me the tradition of them seeing gifts AFTER we are ready w/cameras was no longer and went to bed…granted it was 4am!!
A few other cute expressions…all they wanted was skateboards…I didn’t argue too much, did you know they are only like $10-$15, wow Santa got to be cheap!

Here’s a shot of the tree with only a PART of the gifts we opened with ALL of my family, they all brought their presents over and we took a couple of hours doing the gifts…it is pure CHAOS, but of course fun!
My gingerbread house couldn’t go unnoticed after the hours I spent working on it! I know it looks like I spent 5 minutes…I could never do those contests!

And to end on a sweet note…here’s my nephew Aidan, about 2 months old now and looking cute as ever! I hope everyone had a great Christmas as well, I am so thankful to have family and friends so close that I could be with them on these special holidays!

Merry Christmas Eve

Like every year I am spending mine racing around trying to finish up the last minute shopping that I haven’t had time to do…and I am sure I’ll be wrapping til all hours of the night too =) I have SOOOOOOOO MUCH to add with plenty of recent shoots, I just haven’t had time to get images edited and online, so more to come in the coming week or two!
The last image is with Dawson and Sariah, both about 8 months old…aren’t they cute?

Katie and Reeslyn

Meet Katie, or shall I say Ms. Katie and her beautiful 4yr old birthday girl Reeslyn! Katie has been a great friend of mine for years. Before we were friends she was first a client and then employee, thus the friendship! Actually, her husband introduced me to my husband…thanks Russ! I loved having Katie work for me for the years I could hold onto her, but then she got famous teaching her life love…gymnastics! Now I get to see her each week as she teaches both of my boys. We took a few minutes to do some maternity photos before Katie gave birth to baby#3, her first boy! Of course, despite being 9months pregnant, Katie looked beautiful as always!

I loved this cute shot and adorable sweater…no one had to know it was over 80degrees outside!

As you can see, she doesn’t take a bad picture and makes my job easy for sure!

Here is Reeslyn! She’s quite shy if she doesn’t know you, but a super cute little girl!

I just love her big beautiful eyes framed with her cute PINK glasses! The only problem is that a lot of photos don’t show her eyes from the glare on her glasses, so we made sure to place the light so we could see those pretty eyes!

I wanted to do something fun with her but I had to get her to come out of her shell a bit! I was so glad we were able to capture just a little of her personality in this shot!

By the way, Katie had little Mason last Tuesday! I don’t have any shots of him yet, but you can see him on their blog click here. Thanks Katie and Reeslyn for coming over, we had so much fun!
