About Jen...

Thanks for checking in to learn more about me.  I love my life and seriously feel really blessed!  Photography is a passion of mine and it definitely continues to challenge me to push the envelope more and more.  I have been photographing weddings and families for more than 10 years and feel incredibly blessed to do what I love surrounded by those that I love!!  I am a mom to three and married to the love of my life.  I've chosen to work from home and while often challenging, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have 2 boys and one little girl.  Brennan is almost 7 and is my little red head.  People LOVE his red hair. Though he started out with the fiery personality I carried as a youngster, he's grown up to be quite the respectful child who has a love of learning. Dawson is a middle child...need I say more?  He's a tender hearted almost 4 year old whose main method of communication is the perpetual whine.  He has an infectious smile that sure makes it hard to put the camera down around him.  Emery is our little girl who is 1 year old.  She's super laid back and easily entertained...the complete opposite of both her brothers.  She is loved by all the boys in our house but wants only to be with Mommy...and after a couple of Daddy's boys, I'm really ok with that!  My husband and I will be married 10 years this year.  I can hardly believe it's been that long.  He too has a job that he loves in Real Estate Development.  He's very supportive of me in my business and really helpful with the technical side of things (he insists he's even taught me a little Photoshop here and there...I beg to differ).  If there's anything he'd change about my job...it's all the romance I'm around that he has to compete with!!  I'm a hopeless romantic for sure!  But he has some of that in him too, it just tends to go into hiding sometimes!

My family is the most important thing to me and is definitely the reason I love photography so much.  I can't describe the satisfaction I get in capturing wonderful moments for people who are be able to keep them as memories forever.  I truly am grateful that I can have a career working for so many amazing people during some of their most intimate life moments.

In the bag...

I use only the highest quality cameras and lenses!  My main camera is the Canon 5d Mark II.  It is a full frame camera with over 21 megapixels and an expanded ISO range from 50 up to 25,600.  WOW!!  This is cutting edge camera technology...at least for the moment!  I also use only Canon "L" series lenses.  The "L" stand for luxury and man does it ever live up to its name!  Aside from giving me a good arm workout, these lenses have low dispersion glass and are some of the fastest lenses available.  While I typically prefer the wide aperture and great depth of field offered by the 70-200 f 2.8 lens, I also have a handful of other great lenses...

17-40mm f 4.0 USM                                                                                                     28-70mm f 2.8 USM                                                                                                   35mm f 1.4 USM                                                                                                              I also have a Canon 580EX and 580EXII Speedlight.

For Editing I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Spring for Charity Images

I kind of forgot I wanted to share a few more of the images from our Spring Charity event and share our results!  We had such a GREAT time.  When you are there watching these kids interact with the cute little chicks, it’s hard not to constantly smile! I was so happy with our turnout and I’m happy to report that we were able to raise $600 for the Child Crisis Center.  In these hard times it feels good to be able to give back in such an important way. THANK YOU to everyone for the support, referrals and help with this event.  Collectively Spring for Charity Events this year raised $1100 to benefit local charities!  That exceeded our goals for this year and we are so happy with that!  Now to share a few more of some of the images from this year!  This little guy had one of the best “surprised” reactions and I couldn’t help but show it…he was SO DANG CUTE!

Special thanks to CJ & This Little Piggy for allowing us to host the event, to my mom for working the event, to Marnee for kneeling on concrete for hours to ensure we got the PERFECT shot (um knee pads are coming with us next year) and to Alisa @ The Irresistible Dish for sharing such yummy spring treats with all of us!  We can’t wait for next year! If you have a venue or local charity you’d like us to consider for future Spring for Charity events, please let us know!

Silent Auction

There is a silent auction going on today for someone raising money to get some much needed treatment for a specialized medical condition. The treatment needs to be done in Texas and is very expensive.

I’ve donated a one hour portrait session for this cause, please comment below if you’d like to bid and I will forward the highest bid. The auction is going on today. Hopefully with our help, we can help someone in need.

Love these EXPRESSIONS!

There were tears, there were fears and as you can see, there was a WHOLE lot of bravery!  Loved some of the reactions of the kids holding and interacting with the cute baby chicks.

Spring for Charity – Photos w/baby chicks is back!

It’s back…we’re busy prepping for our 2nd Annual Spring for Charity Event! This year will not disappoint with multiple locations, dates and not one, but two great charities to support local children.  This event was so successful last year and the photos captured of kids with baby chicks were to die for, see for yourself…

This year we need your help to make these events successful. Please share this info with anyone who may be interested and post it on facebook or your personal blogs. We want to get the word out and help out two wonderful charities!  Keep in mind these prices are well below our normal session fees and we are donating $50 from each session to the charity.

Marnee, with Marriott Photography has put together 3 separate times to take place on March 3rd and March 4th in Scottsdale.  The donations from these sessions will benefit New Covenant Church and Preschool for educational and playground improvements.

We will also be hosting another event at a wonderful Children’s Boutique at the Biltmore.  This Little Piggy Wears Cotton is a great store with adorable, unique clothing for kids. You’ll want to come just to see all the totally cute kids clothes they offer…many of which you could get for your Spring photo session!  This event will take place on Friday, March 12th at 3pm.  Sessions are limited so you’ll need to call and make an appointment to guarantee your session.

There are so many more ADORABLE photos to share…here’s a few more from last year!

A chance to help others…

john_emilyB500
I heard about THIS heartbreaking story right after Thanksgiving and was so saddened by it. What a sweet girl and wonderful young family to go through such a tragic loss. I wanted to help out by donating and just a few days later I saw the opportunity to join this online auction to help the family. There are SO MANY wonderful things in this auction and all the proceeds will go to this young widow and her family. Please go to THIS SITE to view over 100 auction items and find something to bid on! I’m offering a mini photo session that INCLUDES a 16×20 Wall Portrait…I’d love to take your pictures =) You have until this Saturday to bid on any of the items in the auction. Be sure to look from today’s posts all the way back to November 30th to view all of the items up for grabs.

Shopping has never felt so good! Love that all the money goes to the family!

Spring for Charity…SUCCESSFUL!

We did it!  We are so happy with the results on this project we put so much effort into.  Children and chicks were successfully photographed and the cuteness factor was off the charts!  Thanks so much to Marnee and Maria from Little Scholars for helping to pull this off and make it successful!  We were also pretty blessed to have much needed help from Jane and Anne, Marnee’s sweet mom and sister, and my mom as well…you’ve never seen so much CHAOS as we set up and had all 6 of my kids and Marnee’s together trying to photograph them…let’s just say, we’d photograph the whole group all over again before we’d do our own 6 kids!!  Now for the pics…there’s a lot, I just couldn’t help it!

Thanks so much to our parents and kids for making it such a fun and wonderful day!!  Can’t wait for next year! Oh, and if you want us to notify you of our dates for next year, please email me at jen@photojenic.net

Hip, Hip, HOORAY!

090123_0807We are so excited that so many people signed up for Spring for Charity. We have filled up more sessions than anticipated and we can’t wait to see all the kids and how they respond to the chicks. We did add a few additional time slots for the later afternoon for any last minute reservations. If you know of someone that might be interested, please send this along to them.

[caption id="attachment_296" align="aligncenter" width="456" caption="Maybe your little (or not so little) one, will be nervous with the chicks like this guy..."]Maybe your little (or not so little) one, will be nervous with the chicks like this guy...[/caption]

By the way, for all of our parents that signed up for the event, we have even more in store for you!  David Goron is a 3rd Degree Black Belt and teaches Professional Martial Arts.  He has graciously offered to do a free Safety Class for kids the following Saturday, March 28th at Little Scholars Academy.  I’ve heard this is an AMAZING class in which the kids are shown great techniques to respond if ever in a bad situation.  It’s very hands on and the kids even practice yelling NO! and learn when it is appropriate to respond this way.  I’m grateful to David for his donation of time and hope that many people will take advantage of this great class.

Thanks to everyone who have supported this great cause, I can’t wait to share photos with you all next week!
