About Jen...

Thanks for checking in to learn more about me.  I love my life and seriously feel really blessed!  Photography is a passion of mine and it definitely continues to challenge me to push the envelope more and more.  I have been photographing weddings and families for more than 10 years and feel incredibly blessed to do what I love surrounded by those that I love!!  I am a mom to three and married to the love of my life.  I've chosen to work from home and while often challenging, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have 2 boys and one little girl.  Brennan is almost 7 and is my little red head.  People LOVE his red hair. Though he started out with the fiery personality I carried as a youngster, he's grown up to be quite the respectful child who has a love of learning. Dawson is a middle child...need I say more?  He's a tender hearted almost 4 year old whose main method of communication is the perpetual whine.  He has an infectious smile that sure makes it hard to put the camera down around him.  Emery is our little girl who is 1 year old.  She's super laid back and easily entertained...the complete opposite of both her brothers.  She is loved by all the boys in our house but wants only to be with Mommy...and after a couple of Daddy's boys, I'm really ok with that!  My husband and I will be married 10 years this year.  I can hardly believe it's been that long.  He too has a job that he loves in Real Estate Development.  He's very supportive of me in my business and really helpful with the technical side of things (he insists he's even taught me a little Photoshop here and there...I beg to differ).  If there's anything he'd change about my job...it's all the romance I'm around that he has to compete with!!  I'm a hopeless romantic for sure!  But he has some of that in him too, it just tends to go into hiding sometimes!

My family is the most important thing to me and is definitely the reason I love photography so much.  I can't describe the satisfaction I get in capturing wonderful moments for people who are be able to keep them as memories forever.  I truly am grateful that I can have a career working for so many amazing people during some of their most intimate life moments.

In the bag...

I use only the highest quality cameras and lenses!  My main camera is the Canon 5d Mark II.  It is a full frame camera with over 21 megapixels and an expanded ISO range from 50 up to 25,600.  WOW!!  This is cutting edge camera technology...at least for the moment!  I also use only Canon "L" series lenses.  The "L" stand for luxury and man does it ever live up to its name!  Aside from giving me a good arm workout, these lenses have low dispersion glass and are some of the fastest lenses available.  While I typically prefer the wide aperture and great depth of field offered by the 70-200 f 2.8 lens, I also have a handful of other great lenses...

17-40mm f 4.0 USM                                                                                                     28-70mm f 2.8 USM                                                                                                   35mm f 1.4 USM                                                                                                              I also have a Canon 580EX and 580EXII Speedlight.

For Editing I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Absence.

Does anyone else find it annoying when bloggers post their posting abscnce?

Yeah…me too.

It’s like sometimes you think, “well I didn’t even notice you were gone, since I just read my google reader when you’re here.”  =)

And in light of that dislike…I can’t help but say…

I’m in a transition of my lovely nanny moving up for college and me awaiting back to school (next Monday, yay) and a new day care situation for my lil’ one.

So…hate this post or not…there’s your explanation. =)

I hope to be back to my irregular, unscheduled posting soon.

HUGS =)

Out of the office…

This post comes a little late due to a little jet lag and no internet access…but I am out of the office for the rest of this week until next Monday on a much needed vacation!  My kids are being well cared for at home while my husband and I enjoy a tropical get away for our anniversary!

Thanks for your understanding…and in the mean time you can watch this short video clip to see the beach we are at! =)

It’s even more delightful than it seems…minus the HUMIDITY here =) And the computers are terrible too…forgive misspellings, the keyboard doesn’t work very well and I am sporting some blurry eyes as well from my motion sickness patch…fun times.  At least I don’t need a computer since this IS vacation!

A New Beginning

This was one of the most fun/silly/crazy office groups I’ve ever seen.  These guys make up the staff at A New Beginning OBGYN in Mesa.  Dr. DeAnna Bullaro-Anderer is just as cute as can be and seriously had the most laid back, happy and fun personality! Her staff was all the same, they laughed a lot and really got along well.  They are working on a fabulous new website and were in need of some professional portraits to use.  First up, the beautiful Dr. Bullaro…

Bolero0002

I first met her when my nephew was born and I just adored her and her fun personality.  What’s even more impressive though is her work ethic.  She likes to deliver ALL of her babies…she has approximately 30 deliveries a month IN ADDITION to all the office appointments!  WOW!  She is so dedicated to her patients and babies that she will do anything she can to be there to deliver, that was very impressive. Check out the whole gang…

When I told you these guys like to have fun…I wasn’t kidding! This next idea was all theirs.  Since Dr. Bullaro weighs barely more than the babies she’s delivering they all wanted to pick her up.  Sure, easy enough.  So up she went…

Bolero0014

And then I had to go and change up the idea a bit…I told them to raise her up above their heads…despite her protesting, they started to…at which point her head and upper body started to plummet to the ground =) OOPS!  This is the moment they caught her from falling…

Seriously…can you possibly get a happier group of people to get you through the aches and pains of pregnancy?  If you want to check them out for yourself go their website (check back soon for the new site).

Mitt Romney – No Apology

Last night I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the book signing for Mitt Romney with his new book, No Apology.  Hundreds of people came out for the event and I had a great time being a close part of the excitement.
Romney-9763
Mitt was a genuinely nice guy, he spoke to everyone, shook hands with them and often signed multiple items for them even when the staff said he didn’t have time. He answered political questions, made small talk about acquaintances and thanked people graciously as nearly everyone begged for him to run for President in 2012.  He was kind and very patient with everyone.

Here are a few more photos we took during the event.

Thanks to Mike for referring this job to me, it was really great to be a part of it.

Vegas

I’m currently out of the office attending WPPI one of the largest and best conventions for Wedding and Portrait Photographers. The days are long, the nights very short, but I always love coming back recharged, motivated and refocused on the areas of my business I want to improve.

Today was 13 hours and it was great. I especially loved our last class with the amazing Jasmine Star who was super fun and very inspirational. Tomorrow morning I’m looking forward to hearing from a wonderful portrait photographer and also browsing the tradeshow as I work on fine tuning a few products.

For any photographers, if you’ve ever wanted to really get your business in high gear, this is the place to go. Clients, if you’ve called or emailed, I will be getting back to you as soon as possible.

Holiday Photo Sessions!

It’s that time of year again where holidays are upon us, cool weather HOPEFULLY coming and people wanting to update their family photos to send out Christmas Cards.  I love shooting families this time of year and look forward to the upcoming sessions. In an effort to be organized and TRY to not finish my holiday shopping on Christmas Eve, this year I am scheduling my sessions early and limiting the number of family sessions I take on. I’m also offering a discount to anyone who books their session for the following dates, first come first serve!  And this year we will have our first ever “mini sessions” a reduced session for individuals or couples. These sessions will last only about 30 minutes and are great if you just need updated pics of your kids and not a full family session.  Call or email us now to reserve your session time!!

And the winner is…

OK, OK…I”m a week late, but cut me a little slack here…I did have a daughter sick for 2 weeks with Bronchiolitis and double ear infections, then my oldest came down with double pink eye and then my 3 yr old got it too…and to top it off, my husband was out of town for that part for 5 days!

And don’t even get me started on how much I hate pink eye…it’s my new most hated child illness…no it’s not as hard as shots or breathing treatments and it’s not too hard on them…but it’s SOOOOO contagious, and the LAUNDRY?  AHHHHHHHHHH…I’ve done more towels, clothes, sheets, pillowcases and scrub downs of hands and switches and anything else they will touch for days!  And when was the last time you had to hold your toddler down, pry the eyes open…without touching…and force drops in?  In the end it still passed to one of my other kids, my younger brother and my niece…and who knows how many others!!  A huge thanks to my stepmom who spent much of her short vacation washing and folding to keep me ahead of the game!!  THAT was HUGE!

Oh yes…back to the winner of my giveaway…

Thank you to everyone for your comments!!  I ended up with 38 total comments and met some new followers of my blog!  I used random.org to give me a random winner and it chose #32…the 32nd person to comment was Shelly!  Shelly, thanks for taking time to read my blog, it looks like you are going to be getting a box of these yummy cookies from home!cookies-from-home-box

I couldn’t resist this cute green box since it mimicked my new green color…so Shelly, shoot me an email (jen@photojenic.net) with your address and we will get some cookies sent your way!

It’s Here!

I’m super excited to FINALLY launch my new look and blog.

Above is my new logo/brand.  I’m really excited about it.  I feel it is a contemporary, yet simple representation of me and my work!  I love how the logo emphasises my own name within my company name.  Photography is such a part of my life and because of that I’m always ”behind the camera,”  so I felt it fitting that my name falls within the camera in the logo as well.   I also loved that the “J” of my name mimicks a grip on a camera, along with the top of the “j” looking like the shutter release.  The color scheme is fun and earthy as I do most of my photography outdoors.

So much thought went into creating this new look.  From colors to fonts, sizes and all other elements.  I tried to carry that look onto this blog and I sure hope it better represents who I am and the work that I do!  I”m striving to reinvent my business from the ground up, perfecting areas that need it as I go.  This step was an imperative part of that process as I work to design all new marketing pieces and streamline the work that I do.

I would LOVE to get your feedback on the new blog or the logo.  In fact, I’d love it so much that I’ll enter your comments into my free giveaway, but you have to comment before midnight tomorrow! And don’t worry, if you already left a comment on that post, you can leave one here for another chance…because I want to know what you think about the look too =)
