About Jen...

Thanks for checking in to learn more about me.  I love my life and seriously feel really blessed!  Photography is a passion of mine and it definitely continues to challenge me to push the envelope more and more.  I have been photographing weddings and families for more than 10 years and feel incredibly blessed to do what I love surrounded by those that I love!!  I am a mom to three and married to the love of my life.  I've chosen to work from home and while often challenging, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have 2 boys and one little girl.  Brennan is almost 7 and is my little red head.  People LOVE his red hair. Though he started out with the fiery personality I carried as a youngster, he's grown up to be quite the respectful child who has a love of learning. Dawson is a middle child...need I say more?  He's a tender hearted almost 4 year old whose main method of communication is the perpetual whine.  He has an infectious smile that sure makes it hard to put the camera down around him.  Emery is our little girl who is 1 year old.  She's super laid back and easily entertained...the complete opposite of both her brothers.  She is loved by all the boys in our house but wants only to be with Mommy...and after a couple of Daddy's boys, I'm really ok with that!  My husband and I will be married 10 years this year.  I can hardly believe it's been that long.  He too has a job that he loves in Real Estate Development.  He's very supportive of me in my business and really helpful with the technical side of things (he insists he's even taught me a little Photoshop here and there...I beg to differ).  If there's anything he'd change about my job...it's all the romance I'm around that he has to compete with!!  I'm a hopeless romantic for sure!  But he has some of that in him too, it just tends to go into hiding sometimes!

My family is the most important thing to me and is definitely the reason I love photography so much.  I can't describe the satisfaction I get in capturing wonderful moments for people who are be able to keep them as memories forever.  I truly am grateful that I can have a career working for so many amazing people during some of their most intimate life moments.

In the bag...

I use only the highest quality cameras and lenses!  My main camera is the Canon 5d Mark II.  It is a full frame camera with over 21 megapixels and an expanded ISO range from 50 up to 25,600.  WOW!!  This is cutting edge camera technology...at least for the moment!  I also use only Canon "L" series lenses.  The "L" stand for luxury and man does it ever live up to its name!  Aside from giving me a good arm workout, these lenses have low dispersion glass and are some of the fastest lenses available.  While I typically prefer the wide aperture and great depth of field offered by the 70-200 f 2.8 lens, I also have a handful of other great lenses...

17-40mm f 4.0 USM                                                                                                     28-70mm f 2.8 USM                                                                                                   35mm f 1.4 USM                                                                                                              I also have a Canon 580EX and 580EXII Speedlight.

For Editing I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Downtown Phoenix Family Session

Well I wish I could say this session was a piece of cake with no snags…unfortunately it wasn’t quite that, but despite the odds, we got some great pics! Suprisingly, the family and these adorable kids were NOT the problem. It’s the random people who found it necessary to harass us while we roamed the PUBLIC streets of downtown Phoenix that really started to get to me! Like SERIOUSLY…do you need to “stake your claim” to that hideous, run down wall and alley because heaven forbid THAT be in MY picture? And to have another photographer seek me out as a client just to give me the 3rd degree in the MIDDLE OF MY SHOOT…yeah, it wasn’t a pretty site, but thankfully the family was awesome and understanding. Now I’d just LOVE to talk to the people who harassed me, you know in a normal way, like not during my shoot when I’m in my office! I hope they see these and call me…
And now back to the amazing photos that inspired this post!

That last shot was completely inspired by an awesome photographer who I follow regurlarily. She loves jumping shots and I guess I never realized how fun they are…and little Janey was just so good, so I’m definitely gonna have to try this again! You should check out Wendy’s work…she’s super fun, her work’s amazing, and I do enjoy her fresh style in photography!

Gorgeous Black and Pink Birth Announcement

Remember this sweet little lady?
Well, I wanted to post her gorgeous birth announcement that might just be my favorite so far (wish I could take credit for the design)!! I wanted to be sure her mommy had time to distribute all the announcements first before I spoiled the fun…so here it is. It’s a trifold card with 6 sides…

This is the front…

I just got the nicest email from Nicole sharing some feedback on the announcement from a friend out of town, she wrote “OMG … I just got the birth announcement in the mail (delayed at post office for some reason). She is gorgeous!!! And I absolutely LOVE the announcement. It has to be the nicest one I have ever seen, by far! I have put Lacey’s picture in a place of honor at my desk so everyone can see how beautiful she is. Love the tutu and the hats!”

I’d have to say that’s the nicest “thank you” someone can send my way…feedback always makes you even more grateful to have such a great job!

Woodmans – Phoenix Industrial Photo Session

This is a fabulous family…whom I happen to be lucky enough to call my own…last month we decided to go out and try some photos in a more industrial setting to change up the pace of what they’ve done before for their photos. I challenged them to bring in some color and to vary the clothing…they of course know their clothes and pulled off the color scheme quite well if I do say so myself =) I definitely couldn’t narrow down the pics for this post and since I’ve been slow to post lately, I figured you’d all love to see these as much as I do. At the very least the Woodman’s will enjoy the pics…

Happy Easter…

It was a great day…started out with a recount from Brennan who just knows he saw the Easter Bunny last night!  Kids ate candy for breakfast, which I opted to not fight as I’m happy to have it gone SOON, heaven knows I don’t need that candy!

It turned out to be a great day of worship spent reflecting on the REAL meaning of this holiday, the sacrifice of The Savior.  Then an evening spent with family including some good news shared and wonderful things to celebrate! Hope you had a great day too!

Gotta love kids…sneak peeks

Well, I’m back, but I assure you, even though my blogging went down, I was never really gone! After a surprise exit of my previous nanny, work time became much more limited while I worked on finding a replacement. I think I have one now, another great girl that hopefully the kids will adjust well to. And that my friends means, that I can FINALLY work during daylight hours and hopefully eat dinner again with my family some nights instead of at my desk!

It also means that some of the following GREAT families who are DYING to see pics and waiting ever so patiently will be getting to see their photos soon. In the meantime, enjoy the sneak peek!

Spring for Charity…SUCCESSFUL!

We did it!  We are so happy with the results on this project we put so much effort into.  Children and chicks were successfully photographed and the cuteness factor was off the charts!  Thanks so much to Marnee and Maria from Little Scholars for helping to pull this off and make it successful!  We were also pretty blessed to have much needed help from Jane and Anne, Marnee’s sweet mom and sister, and my mom as well…you’ve never seen so much CHAOS as we set up and had all 6 of my kids and Marnee’s together trying to photograph them…let’s just say, we’d photograph the whole group all over again before we’d do our own 6 kids!!  Now for the pics…there’s a lot, I just couldn’t help it!
[gallery size="full" columns="1"]
Thanks so much to our parents and kids for making it such a fun and wonderful day!!  Can’t wait for next year! Oh, and if you want us to notify you of our dates for next year, please email me at jen@photojenic.net
