PhotoJenic Photography [blog] bio picture

About Jen...

Thanks for checking in to learn more about me.  I love my life and seriously feel really blessed!  Photography is a passion of mine and it definitely continues to challenge me to push the envelope more and more.  I have been photographing weddings and families for more than 10 years and feel incredibly blessed to do what I love surrounded by those that I love!!  I am a mom to three and married to the love of my life.  I've chosen to work from home and while often challenging, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have 2 boys and one little girl.  Brennan is almost 7 and is my little red head.  People LOVE his red hair. Though he started out with the fiery personality I carried as a youngster, he's grown up to be quite the respectful child who has a love of learning. Dawson is a middle child...need I say more?  He's a tender hearted almost 4 year old whose main method of communication is the perpetual whine.  He has an infectious smile that sure makes it hard to put the camera down around him.  Emery is our little girl who is 1 year old.  She's super laid back and easily entertained...the complete opposite of both her brothers.  She is loved by all the boys in our house but wants only to be with Mommy...and after a couple of Daddy's boys, I'm really ok with that!  My husband and I will be married 10 years this year.  I can hardly believe it's been that long.  He too has a job that he loves in Real Estate Development.  He's very supportive of me in my business and really helpful with the technical side of things (he insists he's even taught me a little Photoshop here and there...I beg to differ).  If there's anything he'd change about my job...it's all the romance I'm around that he has to compete with!!  I'm a hopeless romantic for sure!  But he has some of that in him too, it just tends to go into hiding sometimes!

My family is the most important thing to me and is definitely the reason I love photography so much.  I can't describe the satisfaction I get in capturing wonderful moments for people who are be able to keep them as memories forever.  I truly am grateful that I can have a career working for so many amazing people during some of their most intimate life moments.

In the bag...

I use only the highest quality cameras and lenses!  My main camera is the Canon 5d Mark II.  It is a full frame camera with over 21 megapixels and an expanded ISO range from 50 up to 25,600.  WOW!!  This is cutting edge camera technology...at least for the moment!  I also use only Canon "L" series lenses.  The "L" stand for luxury and man does it ever live up to its name!  Aside from giving me a good arm workout, these lenses have low dispersion glass and are some of the fastest lenses available.  While I typically prefer the wide aperture and great depth of field offered by the 70-200 f 2.8 lens, I also have a handful of other great lenses...

17-40mm f 4.0 USM                                                                                                     28-70mm f 2.8 USM                                                                                                   35mm f 1.4 USM                                                                                                              I also have a Canon 580EX and 580EXII Speedlight.

For Editing I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.

John and Linette – Gainey Golf Club Wedding

WOW, I hope this huge post makes up for my lack of posts lately. I can’t say enough GOOD about this incredible wedding! It was FUN, the bride and groom LOVE pictures which makes my job so much easier to begin with and of course they look awesome in pictures too! We just had a blast working with these two. I was so glad they chose to see each other before hand, as we got SO many more pictures because we weren’t pressed for time and events. Linette has the best personality, she is constantly laughing and is always happy! I’m so grateful to have worked this wedding, I feel blessed to get to be a part of such an intimate day with such an AMAZING group of people.

Enjoy the gallery of images!

cute little kids…

starchman-25This post was NEARLY done when I left for vacation a week ago, but I just couldn’t get it online and every intention of “working” on vacation just didn’t happen…well beyond the 6 or 7 photo shoots I did on vacation =)

Here are my nieces and nephew! Despite only living a mile away from me, mom and dad have no pics of these kids up in their house…I decided it was time for force and so for Christmas I made them promise to let me take their kids pictures in the spring =) So…we finally did and yeah it always takes me forever to edit for my family…sorry family!!

Onto the cute pics…Skyler sure loved the camera, seriously she just looks like a little model!

This is Sam. He and my Brennan sure have a blast together, it’s fun having them so close in age!!
starchman-15
And little Sariah…this girl has a smile that is infectious and a personality you just have to adore! She loves my Dawson (they are only weeks apart) even though I’m pretty sure he’s not very nice to her! She is the happiest little girl ever. And how can you not adore a kid with glasses? It just magnifies the cuteness!

starchman-10Thanks guys for letting me do the pictures! Now let’s update your walls so people know you have another child beyond a toddler named Sam!

A disappointment I tell ya…

When Brennan woke up today I heard an almost immediate, tearful, emotional breakdown coming from him. He had slept in a bit and my first thought was “no…not sickness before vacation!” Upon entering the room I found I too was sad for him…you see, he’s had this FRONT tooth kind of just “barely there” for almost a week, I was DYING for it to be GONE! Last night someone came over…a med student whom we told Brennan was a Dr. Brennan stood ever so calmly (far cry from this experience with his first tooth) and allowed him to just YANK it out…and in one pull, it was GONE! He didn’t cry, he was so excited! And then his Daddy cleaned up the kitchen and that napkin with the little white baby tooth got cleaned up too! No worries, after some looking, we found it! So that was last night, and even after all this excitement and worry would you EVEN BELIEVE…

THAT DANG TOOTHFAIRY DIDN’T COME!!!!!!

How could he? she?

We had plenty of explanations…

“sometimes it takes the fairy a few days”
“you didn’t get on the ’schedule’ in time…you lost your tooth late you know”
“maybe there were just a LOT of kids losing teeth in the last week of school”

I felt bad…especially when he reminded me in the next tearfilled breakdown 10 seconds later that “he doesn’t get to celebrate his birthday at school…” his birthday is next week, school always ends a few days before his birthday.

I adjusted my morning schedule and was sure to get to the store, cookies, milk and cups were purchased and promptly delivered after lunch to a class filled with kids watching a movie along with “baby sister” he loves showing her off.

To my surprise he hardly said hello to me, didn’t hug me when he came to help pass out the cookies either, or notice his sister. He almost smiled when the kids sang happy birthday, cha cha cha and all, while he stood on a chair…and when all the kids said “thank you Brennan’s mommy” on my way out, he looked my way, but was too involved in the movie they were watching to wave goodbye or say thanks.

But I’m pretty sure he got to feel special with his friends.
And I felt a LITTLE less low about myself.

goodbye cute baby teeth that are too small for your growing mouth…
welcome (sigh) awkward smiling days where your teeth might be too big and you hate pictures and no longer know how to smile.

#55 CHECK!

I am WAY behind on posting for my 101 in 1001, but surprisingly, I HAVE been crossing things off the list, just not posting about them =) So, forever ago I completed #55 “Improve the look of my blog” and I’m SOOOOOOOOOO glad I did, I love having the pictures bigger and the categories easier to sort out and view separately.

So, I should be sharing more 101 in 1001 accomplishments soon…hope others are setting and achieving goals as well!

My Saving Grace…

Meet Lindsay…the person who keeps me sane, gives me a break, ensures the children get fed at least once a day and sometimes even helps to make sure I get fed once a day =) (alright…you got me…I sort of usually don’t forget that one!).

Lindsay is my new nanny, replacing her sweet sister Amber who we wore out was working two jobs and never having downtime and her hubby recently got a new job so now they can spend more time together!!

So Lindsay pretty much saves the day…like EVERYDAY! She’s a master of multi-tasking who can carry my brute of a 4yr old while he screams in his most dramatic voice, “mother…i need my MUUUTHER” because he needed to tell me something about a million times a day! She distracts Emery who sees her brothers come in the office, cries and wants to be with me right away! She manages to clean up AND take care of the children, keeps them laughing and playing and honestly, she’s starting to make me look bad, cuz on the days she’s not here, dinner usually not made and the house…oh it’s a site…and my husband probably wonders why on earth he has a wife!! So…thanks for that Lindsay…needless to say, we’re SO HAPPY to have you…and now, here she is in her cuteness for her senior pictures!

[gallery columns="1" gallery size="full"]

Congratulations on graduating Lindsay! I know you’ll do well, just don’t do too well…too soon, refer to the end of paragraph 3 if you aren’t sure why. =)

Oh and for the record…cuz I’ve gotten so many comments and am bound to get more…yes…she is a “nanny” aka…child care provider in my home who keeps things sane around here. And yes, I need one, because you see, I’ve been saving up a years worth of Oprah shows so I can watch them while someone changes diapers on my behalf.

Come on people…do you think the computer goes into autopilot to edit, retouch, number, size, upload and order these images for you to see? Um…yeah it doesn’t and yeah Oprah’s the last thing on my mind when I have someone here so that I can work. It’s the same as putting my kids in child care, except I am here and I can be with them if needed…and they get to stay in their own home, and that makes it so worth it!

Smith Family photos, a long time in the making…

This is the Smith Family who I’m told had their family photos done ONCE about 10 years ago in a little studio…which means we maybe can’t even count it.  Mom and Dad were married and didn’t have a single professional photo done and haven’t even though they added to their family 5 times over!  So…imagine my excitement  when they commissioned me to capture this most glorious event!!  Here’s the beautiful mom and dad who are super cute and so in love…

Maybe you didn’t know…

You probably didn’t know this about me.  I had to inform my husband too…it’s ok, I like to take such recognition under wraps and not make a big deal of it.

But since Mother’s Day is coming to an end for another year, I thought I’d let you know about my recent fame…

I’d like to keep the autographs to a minimum…thanks!

My photos…

My husband crankily (yes that is a word) informed one minute ago that I need to make a change…”your photos are too big.”  I sat there confused, we weren’t discussing anything in particular, I thought…

 the ones on the wall?

my large file sizes on the computer?

 the ones I just printed?

what are you talking about?

Then he says, “seriously, it’s starting to bug me…you need to make your blog images smaller.”

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh…really?  They are too big?

So, apparently on MY SCREEN they look great, but on OTHER screens that aren’t as big as mine, maybe they are just TOO big.

So, I’m asking you…are my images too big?  Cuz now I’m getting a complex…(I might post the next set a bit smaller just to see…but base your answer off my PREVIOUS posts).

A new do…

Yesterday was Brennan’s school’s Crazy Hair Day. When Dawson found out what we were up to, he insisted his school needed crazy hair too! So, as any good mom would do, I sent the 4 yr old to preschool on an average day with a green mohawk and purple hair!
[gallery columns="1" gallery size="full"]
Brennan was jealous his brother’s hair was more vibrant. I’ve decided I need to buy red next time so Brennan can enhance his own color! The boys loved every bit of their colorful hair…thanks Aunt Steph for the colorful product!
