PhotoJenic Photography [blog] bio picture

About Jen...

Thanks for checking in to learn more about me.  I love my life and seriously feel really blessed!  Photography is a passion of mine and it definitely continues to challenge me to push the envelope more and more.  I have been photographing weddings and families for more than 10 years and feel incredibly blessed to do what I love surrounded by those that I love!!  I am a mom to three and married to the love of my life.  I've chosen to work from home and while often challenging, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have 2 boys and one little girl.  Brennan is almost 7 and is my little red head.  People LOVE his red hair. Though he started out with the fiery personality I carried as a youngster, he's grown up to be quite the respectful child who has a love of learning. Dawson is a middle child...need I say more?  He's a tender hearted almost 4 year old whose main method of communication is the perpetual whine.  He has an infectious smile that sure makes it hard to put the camera down around him.  Emery is our little girl who is 1 year old.  She's super laid back and easily entertained...the complete opposite of both her brothers.  She is loved by all the boys in our house but wants only to be with Mommy...and after a couple of Daddy's boys, I'm really ok with that!  My husband and I will be married 10 years this year.  I can hardly believe it's been that long.  He too has a job that he loves in Real Estate Development.  He's very supportive of me in my business and really helpful with the technical side of things (he insists he's even taught me a little Photoshop here and there...I beg to differ).  If there's anything he'd change about my job...it's all the romance I'm around that he has to compete with!!  I'm a hopeless romantic for sure!  But he has some of that in him too, it just tends to go into hiding sometimes!

My family is the most important thing to me and is definitely the reason I love photography so much.  I can't describe the satisfaction I get in capturing wonderful moments for people who are be able to keep them as memories forever.  I truly am grateful that I can have a career working for so many amazing people during some of their most intimate life moments.

In the bag...

I use only the highest quality cameras and lenses!  My main camera is the Canon 5d Mark II.  It is a full frame camera with over 21 megapixels and an expanded ISO range from 50 up to 25,600.  WOW!!  This is cutting edge camera technology...at least for the moment!  I also use only Canon "L" series lenses.  The "L" stand for luxury and man does it ever live up to its name!  Aside from giving me a good arm workout, these lenses have low dispersion glass and are some of the fastest lenses available.  While I typically prefer the wide aperture and great depth of field offered by the 70-200 f 2.8 lens, I also have a handful of other great lenses...

17-40mm f 4.0 USM                                                                                                     28-70mm f 2.8 USM                                                                                                   35mm f 1.4 USM                                                                                                              I also have a Canon 580EX and 580EXII Speedlight.

For Editing I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Looking up to Dad…

090525_9370
Here are my kids looking up at Daddy in a recent attempt for a wall portrait of the 3 kids together…I love this photo and the way they are all mesmerized by Dad. I love Brennan’s goofy smile and missing tooth, and Dawson’s gorgeous eyes and Emery’s sweet little face!

Today like all of you, I want to thank the love of my life for his AMAZING Daddy role and all that he does for us and I can only hope my kids continue to look up to their Daddy, because I know that he will lead them all to be righteous, strong and respectful, and for that I’m grateful!!

Now for our Father’s Day Funnies…

My amazing nanny takes the prize with the best gift ever! She asked the boys a series of questions about their dad and made us an ADORABLE book of the questions and answers…here are some of the best highlights (there are a lot because seriously I thought so many were good…sorry).

What is something Dad always says to you?
Brennan 7: You should be dressed for school by now
Dawson 4: I love you

What makes Dad sad?
Brennan 7: Disobeying
Dawson 4: When I don’t work with him

If Dad becomes famous, what will it be for?
Brennan 7: Being the best baseball player that ever lived
Dawson 4: He would have a famous racecar

What is your dad really good at?
Brennan 7: Cooking
Dawson 4: Waking up when it’s my cereal time

What is your dad not good at?
Brennan 7: Coloring
Dawson 4: Digging holes

What does your dad do for a job?
Brennan 7: Works in a big tall building for people
Dawson 4: Clicks on Y to see a big pink sky (um…we are just as confused as you)

What is your dad’s favorite food? (below is each of THEIR favorites)
Brennan 7: Hawaiian Haystacks
Dawson 4: Mac N Cheese

What makes you proud of your dad?
Brennan 7: He takes care of me
Dawson 4: When he’s proud of me for keeping the yard clean

What do you and your dad do together?
Brennan 7: Go to Sports Authority
Dawson 4:Go to the puppet shows and the puppets push us down slides (again, completely clueless here)

How are you and your dad different?
Brennan 7: He has black hair; I have red, orange, and yellow
Dawson 4: His toes are old

How do you know your dad loves you?
Brennan 7: He put a picture of me in his work office
Dawson 4: He likes me when I work all day long

What does your dad like most about your mom?
Brennan 7: She’s a good mom when he’s not there
Dawson 4: They play mom and dad games (I about died on this one!)

Where is Dad’s favorite place to go? (they are pretty dead on with these!)
Brennan 7: Probably Carambas
Dawson 4: Home Depot

Thanks Lindsay! That was AWESOME to have =)

I hope you all had a good day celebrating men and father’s in your life. I am blessed, not only do I have a great husband but I have TWO dads each who have taught me different things and helped to mold me into who I am today. Happy Father’s Day to them too, I hope they felt special today.

Baby Addison

This little thing has it out for me. She probably doesn’t know she was the WHOLE MOTIVATION for my recent trip to Utah with hopes of AMAZING curled up poses and a sleeping sound baby as cooperative as can be! At almost two weeks she had another idea and it had NOTHING to do with being curled up, sleepy and still for my pictures and SERIOUSLY about 5 or 6 hours of trying on two different days and we got a few pictures to show for our efforts! I could probably safely blame Marnee too, I’ve been on a good baby streak for awhile and she pointed it out so now it’s jinxed me.

Addie is cute though, so I’ve forgiven her, I”m sure there are many more cute photo shoots in the works for this one…Addison is the newest addition to my extended family, my cousin Ashley’s baby girl!! She also has a super cute nursery, check out the pics below!

O N E

My girl is one. Well, quickly approaching 1 and 1/2, but who’s counting? I’ve got pics of my kids for their recent string of birthdays and I wanted to do one big LONG post about them all, but it’s not happening, so after months of wanting to and even starting it over and over, here’s the first of three birthday posts…
090301_2391-1
Little Emery turned One just before Valentines Day and despite our best efforts barely started walking this past week! 16months, my latest walker…and like I suspected, she’s quite a bit happier as a walker than she was as a crawler!
090301_2483-1
I took these pics a few months back and just adore the girlyness of this outfit, it’s one of MANY girl outfits for photoshoots that I’ve got in my head =)
090301_2503-1
I could stare at her all day…
090301_2374-1

090301_2406-1
She’s definitely a girl…we have a lot of this, but since Dawson joined the family, we are pretty used to it already!

PEEK A BOO!090301_2519-1
My favorites about Emery…
1. She’s a GIRL need I say more? Painting toes, playing with hairdos, dresses and bows and cute little shoes…
2. She’s super cuddly still, my boys were way done with that by now.
3. She plays favorites, sometimes Mommy’s best and sometimes Daddy.
4. She’s a whole entire person in this little tiny body with the cutest little bum…doesn’t get any better!
5. She’s content to sit on my lap most of the time, this is great at church, not so good when I need to get stuff done.

It’s still no secret, I wanted this girl A LOT and everything has proven to be just as wonderful as my imagination made it. I LOVE dressing her, playing babies with her, and painting her cute little toes! I love chewing on her belly and neck until her giggles scream for relief. She’s got the BEST curly hair and the most gorgeous brown eyes. She loves crawling with her shoes on her hands and HATES coming to our bed in the morning even with toys or milk…really HATES it! She’s got a lot of personality and has already started her fiesty hitting and fit throwing and even though it’s sometimes not fun, it’s pretty cute when she doesn’t know what she wants, or why she’s mad, she just is…and darn it, sometimes girls are like that…me included!!

Buy A Mac

This is big…really big! I’m pretty sure this very thing might change my life =) or that’s what people tell me at least! I actually bought a Macbook Pro about a year ago, but then someone decided to break into my house and steal it, I’m pretty sure there’s someone out there enjoying my stolen property now, I still miss it =)
090611_9579
But now my friends, now there is HOPE that maybe, just MAYBE I can edit faster than the earth orbits the sun…MAYBE I won’t keep seeing “loading, loading, loading” as Lightroom loads the image, and MAYBE when I click a slider to adjust the image, it will do just that, and not be stuck on two adjustments back still working on that one.

I decided enough was enough, you are only as good as your equipment allows and frankly, 4 years old in this digital world was just TOO old for my trusty ol’ PC and it was time I joined the club of Mac users, and what a club it is, people are pretty dang passionate about their Apples…my husband’s already giddy about the technical stuff and couldn’t wait to get his hands on it.
We did have a little help from my cousin’s husband wink, wink…thanks for that Will!
090611_9581
So, here we have the MAC-Daddy. A Mac Pro with a 2.66 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 8 gigs of RAM, 3 internal hard drives with about 3.5 terabytes of storage and of course a new 24inch Apple LED Cinema Display. Phew…that’s jibberish talk for SUPER COOL and SUPER FAST in my book. Here’s the new screen next to my old one…
090611_9583
The Cinema Display was a source of contention for my husband and I, he really wanted to get 2 new Dell HD screens instead and he told me he’d get me some Apple stickers for the screens, but check this out, my screen is AUTHENTIC…with a sticker to cover the REAL apple, just can’t get that with a measley ol’ fake sticker folks! And when do those boys learn that we ALWAYS win some way or another?
090611_9575
For me, it’s baby steps…I learned today how to TURN THE MACHINE ON…and which side was the front and the back. This new keyboard will take some getting used to, slimmed down, no bells and whistles…hmmm…I hope I like it.
090611_9577
I’m not working solely on it yet, there’s quite a bit to do to get it all set up for my new editing system, not to mention making room for it on my desk. In the meantime, I’ll be spending some last days with LOTS of quality time, just me and the PC (too much really).

And I’ll be loving that I can finally check this one off the list.

Can I get a WOOT WOOT from any Mac users or Mac wannabe’s out there? Or how ’bout some frustration from my PC friends?

#58 Check!

Look into getting a new logo. I told you I am behind on my 101 in 1001 list updates!! Not only did I look into this, but I FINALLY got a new logo that I love.
2colormedium
So this isn’t new news, but here’s a shout out to the guy that stuck through it with me creating this logo! Jared Marcum was great and held out despite me wanting lots of changes and revisions =) It’s not an easy process to select a logo that reflects your company and the vision you have for it, especially when you aren’t quite sure what that is. I love the logo because I feel like it’s a contemporary, yet SIMPLE reflection of me and my work. I love that the word “Jen” is highlighted within the camera and that the body of the J mimicks a camera grip, while the top of the “J” mimicks the shutter release!

Anyway, just trying to get caught up on the 101 in 1001, so here’s to another crossed off the list!!

Gr8 2b 8

This little sweetie used to be my neighbor and then moved far away up to Utah a few months ago, sigh… =(

When we went up as a family 2 weeks ago, we visited her family and were able to take some time to do her baptism photos. She’s turning 8 and preparing for her baptism in July. She was super cute and had all kinds of ideas of what she wanted for her photos which made it super fun!

Here’s some of her cute pics…
[gallery columns="1" gallery size="full"]

And I must say, I could shoot so many better locations if I just lived in Utah! Even with this horrible light I got some great shots…wish we had some of that here in our desert!

Perkins Family Session

I go way back with these guys…they’ve always been like family to me! They kind of had to adopt me and my roommates in college, I mean, I don’t think they chose to, but somehow they did…and we were pretty glad! We’d call on Darin when we needed to move or if the brakes were squeaking or something was wrong on the car. We’d call up randomly and ask what was on their dinner menu and LITERALLY invite ourselves over…um…I still feel bad about this one, who makes enough food for 4 extra “spur of the moment” mouths?
0002
We babysat the two boys a lot in return. I won’t embarass them and tell the details of how Dallas would hide under bathroom cabinets and refuse to talk to us and how Dillon would cry so long when mom and dad left that he’d turn purple. Or how he loved if we’d make the “pig” sound for him over and over and for some reason, we always obliged to get his smile!

Yeah, we have had some good times with this family, including some recent bonding in Havasupai when Darin kept my husband from jumping from an insane height cliff (much to his dismay) since it was at the very falls where Alisa was hurt last year, no chances needed to be taken and for that I was grateful!!

Onto the pics of this wonderful family…
