PhotoJenic Photography [blog] bio picture

About Jen...

Thanks for checking in to learn more about me.  I love my life and seriously feel really blessed!  Photography is a passion of mine and it definitely continues to challenge me to push the envelope more and more.  I have been photographing weddings and families for more than 10 years and feel incredibly blessed to do what I love surrounded by those that I love!!  I am a mom to three and married to the love of my life.  I've chosen to work from home and while often challenging, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have 2 boys and one little girl.  Brennan is almost 7 and is my little red head.  People LOVE his red hair. Though he started out with the fiery personality I carried as a youngster, he's grown up to be quite the respectful child who has a love of learning. Dawson is a middle child...need I say more?  He's a tender hearted almost 4 year old whose main method of communication is the perpetual whine.  He has an infectious smile that sure makes it hard to put the camera down around him.  Emery is our little girl who is 1 year old.  She's super laid back and easily entertained...the complete opposite of both her brothers.  She is loved by all the boys in our house but wants only to be with Mommy...and after a couple of Daddy's boys, I'm really ok with that!  My husband and I will be married 10 years this year.  I can hardly believe it's been that long.  He too has a job that he loves in Real Estate Development.  He's very supportive of me in my business and really helpful with the technical side of things (he insists he's even taught me a little Photoshop here and there...I beg to differ).  If there's anything he'd change about my job...it's all the romance I'm around that he has to compete with!!  I'm a hopeless romantic for sure!  But he has some of that in him too, it just tends to go into hiding sometimes!

My family is the most important thing to me and is definitely the reason I love photography so much.  I can't describe the satisfaction I get in capturing wonderful moments for people who are be able to keep them as memories forever.  I truly am grateful that I can have a career working for so many amazing people during some of their most intimate life moments.

In the bag...

I use only the highest quality cameras and lenses!  My main camera is the Canon 5d Mark II.  It is a full frame camera with over 21 megapixels and an expanded ISO range from 50 up to 25,600.  WOW!!  This is cutting edge camera technology...at least for the moment!  I also use only Canon "L" series lenses.  The "L" stand for luxury and man does it ever live up to its name!  Aside from giving me a good arm workout, these lenses have low dispersion glass and are some of the fastest lenses available.  While I typically prefer the wide aperture and great depth of field offered by the 70-200 f 2.8 lens, I also have a handful of other great lenses...

17-40mm f 4.0 USM                                                                                                     28-70mm f 2.8 USM                                                                                                   35mm f 1.4 USM                                                                                                              I also have a Canon 580EX and 580EXII Speedlight.

For Editing I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Seven…

He’s getting older and with that comes a little bit of that “attitude” I certainly never had =) Brennan turned 7 in May and though I took some pics of him awhile back, I never posted them or anything about my little man at this age!

I’m not gonna lie, I had a hard time letting him take pictures in this red football t-shirt, but since I always decide what he wears for photos, this time I let him decide and frankly, this boy is all about sports!! He LOVES baseball, basketball, football and lately riding bikes with me! He’s already starting to frequent game watching and loves ESPN (thanks Uncle Aaron). I have a feeling my tv days are numbered in which we can happily watch something as a family that doesn’t have to do with a team or a game, really, I can’t believe it’s starting already!

Brennan is a GREAT kid. He’s a great student, now in 2nd grade he’s never once been in trouble at school or church, somehow he’s still in trouble at home though, go figure? He loves to learn and especially loves Math. He likes when we give him math problems verbally, preferably 2 or 3 problems in a row, like 10×3+25-10. He’ll think it through and just like his dad, give an answer without any paper. He even proved me wrong this summer when I insisted he not use “negative” numbers because they don’t teach that in 1st grade! Well he was angry and eventually explained that “mom, I do know negative numbers, the numberline doesn’t end, negative numbers are the ones below zero.”

He is quite social, loves his friends and independence. I’m pretty impressed by his responsible nature and kind heart, there was definitely a time…ok like 3 or 4 years where I thought he’d never stop throwing tantrums, I suppose he’s growing up, now comes the slamming doors in different kind of tantrums, I guess some things never do change!! Nonetheless, we love this kid and his bright red hair with the handful of freckles he continues to get on his face. He’s a good big brother, a great sport and already a pretty hard worker.

Abbie…3 year old pics

I can’t believe iI haven’t posted these images!! They could be my favorite 3yr old pics ever! This weekend I was going through these again and even though her momma has seen her gallery, I couldn’t resist posting these images for you to see. This is little Abbie who loves the camera, I took these pics on our trip to Utah a few months back. Isn’t she a DOLL?

Her mom ordered one of these images really big with our new custom painted frames in a chocolate brown with pink polka dots! I can’t wait to see a finished picture and share it.

Preschool again…

_1-8
Another year of preschool for this kid and mom and child are both going to be pretty happy with this arrangement =) Dawson cried nearly every day of his 3year old preschool. Even with the routine…hug and a kiss, and a high five and low five, a thumbs up, another kiss and blowing a kiss and then the poor teacher peeling him off of me! He didn’t cry because he hated it, but because that’s just what this kid does. So now we have 4yr old preschool and we’re hoping for better things this year!
_1-5
I have to say with the first week nearly behind us, he has done AWESOME! And it’s been a healthy separation for us, if you know what I mean =) His most exciting thing on the first day? Getting to see the “policeman” and his “police motorcycle.” At least that’s a big perk for him since the preschool teacher is married to a “policeman.” Dawson is quite a crack up, seriously, why on earth would I need to send him to school? He looks completely happy and educated, right?

Here’s to another great preschool year, but this time, without the dramatic tears every morning!!

The best time of my life!

Happy Anniversary to me and my sweet honey! Ten years ago today we were married and life has never been better! I couldn’t ask for a better friend, confidant and father for my kids. Here’s some of the ONLY pictures I could find of the two of us through the years…geez you’d think it wouldn’t be so hard to have a few more pics seeing that I have a camera or two laying around at any given point!!
[gallery columns="1" gallery size="full"]

Honey, I don’t know how I could ever love you any more, but I’m sure excited to keep trying!

And if you’ll excuse me now, I have a super hot date for the weekend! =)

The man of the hour…

A big Happy Birthday to my sweet husband who would want nothing of this attention or photos about to make the blog!! He’s the best daddy, so here’s some pics of him with the kids, since apparently when you are married to a photographer, you never make the photos, nor does your wife =) And sadly, while Emery isn’t a typical 3rd child who’s undocumented in pictures, apparently she has no parents since we are not in pics with her hardly at all =)
[gallery columns="1" gallery size ="full"]
Daddy is definitely the favorite around here. He’s the official snuggler, the fix it man and the one who makes wrestling, sports and gaming a whole lot more fun. And despite being a manly man, he’s super sweet as he relishes a kiss from a little toddler girl any chance he can get. I love how he tries to convince me of all the ways we can save money all the time and then insists he needs an old beat up truck (eh hem…as a 3rd vehicle for us two drivers) AND a trailer, not just any trailer, but a DUMP trailer nearly every week! We sure love him, hope you have a Happy Happy Birthday love.

And apparently my blog band isn’t working right…and apparently I don’t care enough to spend the time to fix it when I have too many other things to do =)

And he’s off…

Brennan couldn’t be more excited about his first day of school. I’m not sure what’s more exciting for him…playing, learning and having fun at school, OR finally being able to wear his new school shoes he’s been DYING to wear everyday!
_0813
He was a total trooper even though the mom in me always worries and still remembers shedding a few tears on my first day in like 5th or 6th grade!! I’m glad he doesn’t feel nervous or cry, it would sure tear me up =) Last night he was up until about 11pm, even though he was in bed around 9…night before school jitters, I remember those too! But, he’s a social kid who makes friends easily, I’m quite certain he’ll do great in SECOND GRADE, even with the extra hour he’s gonna have to be there.
_0808
As you can see it was much too bright to get those eyes open today…but I love my little studly man!

Coming back…

It’s true, I’m coming back, back from the “almost dead but nearly recovered”…and really is SUMMER REALLY OVER? Maybe I’m in denial as I’m still waiting to take a summer vacation (though it’s round the corner), but really I feel like my summer went much too fast and my kids can’t already be going back to school!!

So, just when things are supposed to be easy ’round here like the WHOLE MONTH OF JULY in which I had no shoots scheduled and plans to get all kinds of things caught up and finished, then there comes the curve balls which really consumed much of the month! Well, you never do plan the unlikely events we encountered, but alas they come and frankly what better time to come when I had nothing better to do?

We had tremendous love and support after my father in law’s passing and really appreciated the time we could spend together with our family remembering what life is truly about. About the same time he passed I came down with a very what I thought was “average” cold/virus. Well, it was anything but average and I am STILL working this bug out of my system!! And really, I’m not a total wuss, in fact for the first week I was a trooper vowing to not let my illness put further burden on my husband’s recent loss, even if that meant short nights of sleep and long days/nights with pounding headaches, ear infection, blowing my nose a full toilet paper roll each day and unable to breathe. I showed up to everything needed and did my best to be his support and help for the kids. And then came week two. Now a total sinus infection that even days of antibiotics offered no relief. Nor did the up to 20 pills of over the counter meds each day. After a second round of fevers, a 3rd visit to the Dr. and an unexpected force to the ER by the Dr. thankfully things started to look a little better and now going on week 3, though I’m still working out the congestion =) I feel A LOT better than I was feeling, I wish it was all gone, but I’ll take what I can get.

This week MUST look up from the previous few, I mean I can BREATHE again, so that’s a huge sign in the right direction =) So, I’m hoping that I truly can get a few new posts on here this week and get all caught up on orders that people have put in. Thanks for being patient with me lately, I sure hope with school brings some more normalcy around here.

And for some comic relief, watch this video…I didn’t have this…A MAN COLD, I really try to be a trooper through illness, it very well could be the reason it takes me so long to recover, I slept a lot more than normal, but I’m pretty sure that isn’t saying much coming from me.
