About Jen...

Thanks for checking in to learn more about me.  I love my life and seriously feel really blessed!  Photography is a passion of mine and it definitely continues to challenge me to push the envelope more and more.  I have been photographing weddings and families for more than 10 years and feel incredibly blessed to do what I love surrounded by those that I love!!  I am a mom to three and married to the love of my life.  I've chosen to work from home and while often challenging, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

I have 2 boys and one little girl.  Brennan is almost 7 and is my little red head.  People LOVE his red hair. Though he started out with the fiery personality I carried as a youngster, he's grown up to be quite the respectful child who has a love of learning. Dawson is a middle child...need I say more?  He's a tender hearted almost 4 year old whose main method of communication is the perpetual whine.  He has an infectious smile that sure makes it hard to put the camera down around him.  Emery is our little girl who is 1 year old.  She's super laid back and easily entertained...the complete opposite of both her brothers.  She is loved by all the boys in our house but wants only to be with Mommy...and after a couple of Daddy's boys, I'm really ok with that!  My husband and I will be married 10 years this year.  I can hardly believe it's been that long.  He too has a job that he loves in Real Estate Development.  He's very supportive of me in my business and really helpful with the technical side of things (he insists he's even taught me a little Photoshop here and there...I beg to differ).  If there's anything he'd change about my job...it's all the romance I'm around that he has to compete with!!  I'm a hopeless romantic for sure!  But he has some of that in him too, it just tends to go into hiding sometimes!

My family is the most important thing to me and is definitely the reason I love photography so much.  I can't describe the satisfaction I get in capturing wonderful moments for people who are be able to keep them as memories forever.  I truly am grateful that I can have a career working for so many amazing people during some of their most intimate life moments.

In the bag...

I use only the highest quality cameras and lenses!  My main camera is the Canon 5d Mark II.  It is a full frame camera with over 21 megapixels and an expanded ISO range from 50 up to 25,600.  WOW!!  This is cutting edge camera technology...at least for the moment!  I also use only Canon "L" series lenses.  The "L" stand for luxury and man does it ever live up to its name!  Aside from giving me a good arm workout, these lenses have low dispersion glass and are some of the fastest lenses available.  While I typically prefer the wide aperture and great depth of field offered by the 70-200 f 2.8 lens, I also have a handful of other great lenses...

17-40mm f 4.0 USM                                                                                                     28-70mm f 2.8 USM                                                                                                   35mm f 1.4 USM                                                                                                              I also have a Canon 580EX and 580EXII Speedlight.

For Editing I use Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.

Spring for Charity – Photos w/baby chicks is back!

It’s back…we’re busy prepping for our 2nd Annual Spring for Charity Event! This year will not disappoint with multiple locations, dates and not one, but two great charities to support local children.  This event was so successful last year and the photos captured of kids with baby chicks were to die for, see for yourself…

This year we need your help to make these events successful. Please share this info with anyone who may be interested and post it on facebook or your personal blogs. We want to get the word out and help out two wonderful charities!  Keep in mind these prices are well below our normal session fees and we are donating $50 from each session to the charity.

Marnee, with Marriott Photography has put together 3 separate times to take place on March 3rd and March 4th in Scottsdale.  The donations from these sessions will benefit New Covenant Church and Preschool for educational and playground improvements.

We will also be hosting another event at a wonderful Children’s Boutique at the Biltmore.  This Little Piggy Wears Cotton is a great store with adorable, unique clothing for kids. You’ll want to come just to see all the totally cute kids clothes they offer…many of which you could get for your Spring photo session!  This event will take place on Friday, March 12th at 3pm.  Sessions are limited so you’ll need to call and make an appointment to guarantee your session.

There are so many more ADORABLE photos to share…here’s a few more from last year!

Kiss your spouse

Recently as we came upon Valentine’s Day I remembered how blessed I am that I have my Valentine right here and that his job is here, near our home. My cousin is serving in Iraq and he has the most AMAZING wife who deals with the distance quite well despite having 3 young children…but I’m always thinking about her and grateful for his service and their families sacrifice!  I think we too often forget about our wonderful military whose jobs take them to other countries for months and sometimes years at a time!  THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

Today kiss your spouse a little longer…

and love on your kids more…

because too many of them out there are without their mom or dad, all to serve and protect us!

H A P P Y…

Proof that for one moment…a second…or maybe just a millasecond…they all loved each other!

Emery-almost-2-8882

I love Valentine’s Day because I just love “LOVE” and the excuse to do something extra special for these people who I love so much! Tonight we had candlelight dinner, the 5 of us and we tried to teach the boys what Valentine’s is all about. While discussing with them what love is and all the different ways we show love, we enjoyed intermittent songs from Emery of “Happy Birthday to You” every time she noticed the candle was still lit at our table.  =)

Here are the valentine cards we made for the kids classes…I should have taken a photo with the candy attached, but hey, that was more work than I cared to do…Brennan’s had “fun dip” attached to the right

Brennan-Valentines

and Dawson gave Hershey “Kisses” to his classmates!

Dawson-Valentines

Of course one of the best parts of this holiday is a date night and one on one time with my honey…that always makes me very happy! As does these photos courtesy of the fabulous Marnee Marriott.

What a Miracle!

I don’t think I have ever seen or heard a more POWERFUL, INSPIRING, AMAZING story of the power of PRAYER and FAITH and COURAGE (although I would say Nie Nie’s recovery is definitely on this level).  I read this story from just days after the accident after someone posted it on a blog requesting prayers for this family.  This sweet baby boy, 18months old, was found lifeless in his bathtub and then pronounced dead on arrival to the hospital.  He was dead for a full 12 or 13 minutes as they attempted to get his heart beating again and air evac him to a Pediatric ICU at a nearby hospital.  After being in a coma for 13 long days…this guy is a miracle!

If you feel like being inspired, grab some tissues and watch this video!

What a Valentine’s gift for this family!

T W O

I woke up that morning and didn’t take long to realize the course of my day would be a little different than planned.  I had “PLANNED” to have an early baby to space it out from Valentines (she was due February 13th), I had then “PLANNED” to wait until Valentine’s the next day so my first girl could come on that special day, well this little one had her own “PLAN”.  So for the first time in my 3 pregnancies, I experienced having my water break at home, just as soon as I got up that morning. It was so fun, my little secret I waited ’til after I showered to share with my hubby…and even though I was SO EXCITED, I never knew how truly fun she would be!

I still can’t believe this little girl is two, her growth has gone the fastest by far of my 3 kids.  She is the light of our lives, a true blessing!  Never have I enjoyed this toddler stage so much! I suppose it has nothing to do with the insane tantrums and never ending crying the boys seemed to experience at this age!  Emery has her spunk and can talk back like the best of ‘em, but she’s easily distracted still and we can usually negotiate with her over her frustrations so they don’t turn into tantrums…I swear it makes this age just that much more fun!  I am certain she’ll pay us back in the teen years and the boys will likely be easy then =)

Here’s she is, 2…going on pre-teen!  This photo was quite heartwrenching for dad, she just looks too grown up like this!

Emery-almost-2-8946Here are the things I love about my girl at this age!

- Her cuddles, loves and need for rocking and songs to soothe her to sleep

- How she watches her brothers and follows and copies nearly everything they do

- How she yells at her brothers for everything, now learning a baby version of “dop boys” and “dop B”

- How she sings “Hap bur day to u” and tells everyone Happy Birthday on her special day

- How she scowls at me like this and yells “NO Mommy” to me exercising her new found toddler independence

Emery-almost-2-8955

- How she looks when she runs, so cute to see tiny little people run

- How she runs up to Daddy and wraps her arms around his legs when he comes home…melts my heart

- How she plays favorites, some days a Mamma’s girl, some days Daddy’s girl and many of days she’s the adopted daughter of a few friends or my nanny and she wants nothing to do with us

- How she picks up anything electronic and says “HEWO” as she puts it to her ear

- How excited she is to bring the boys their waters to their bed at night…this IS her job

- How she loves to go “WEE” on the swing or the slide

Emery-almost-2-8967- She’s a girly girl…loves her purses, shoes and babies. Must have a purse and baby nearly anywhere we go

- How she graciously says “DANK YOU” when people stop and compliment her cute curls when we’re on the go

- How she always wants to go somewhere “mommy, I go bye bye” (she’s definitely my girl…)

- How she cares for her babies, even recently putting Daddy’s deodorant on her baby…she lifted the shirt and put it on her baby’s tummy

Emery-almost-2-8962- Her smile, her curls, her sass, her cute little teeth and beautiful brown eyes…just her, love everything about her.

Happy TWO baby girl! Some pics of her cute little party will come soon.

Baby it’s C O L D outside…

Since we are having an unseasonably COLD day…these 60’s are KILLER aren’t they =)…and since the world is suffering from complete BLIZZARD conditions, I thought it might be a good time to share our recent snow day with you! We took a drive up to Flagstaff after our crazy week of winter storms and I have to say, it was my most favorite and the most BEAUTIFUL drive to the snow EVER! Here are some unedited (i.e. no retouching) pics from our day! To start off THIS was our view out our front windshield! I swear our window wasn’t that clean…but isn’t that a GORGEOUS drive?

Snow-play-day-7069
Snow-play-day-7210

Truth be told, this little munchkin while cute as can be, was much happier in the warm car than out in that fun, fluffy, white stuff!

title="Snow-play-day-7167"

Dawson was thankfully really into it this year…he didn’t however like the SUPER DUPER BIG hill.

Snow-play-day-7078

Brennan was super brave, way more than me! Here he is heading down the hill “surfing” style…scared me to even watch.
Snow-play-day-7100
Snow-play-day-7102
Emery was not the biggest fan but showed some interest and was therefore taken down on a sled despite her hesitation…mean parents we are.
Snow-play-day-7073
Despite our best efforts to teach Dawson how to make an angel, we didn’t have much success! The snow was SERIOUSLY powder soft and wouldn’t form, I had never felt anything like it. You couldn’t even form a snowball it was so fresh and soft! Snow-play-day-7081That’s my boy on the top of that hill of snow, this was all the excess plowed from the parking lot!
Snow-play-day-7113Snow-play-day-7085
At the end of our play we had the REAL fun! Who needs, sleds, hills and snowballs when you can just have Daddy LAUNCH you into the snow?
Brennan-snow-throw
Each time they literally had to be dug out, I didn’t believe them at first but it took a bit to uncover them in the more than waist high snow!
Dawson-snow-throw
When we finished playing we drove around a bit and I got a few cool shots before heading home…
Can we all say THANK GOODNESS for cell phones? =)
Snow-play-day-7208
Snow-play-day-7196
Snow-play-day-7178
Really? Where do they put the mail?Snow-play-day-7186
Can someone PLEASE weigh in on this…is this not ANIMAL ABUSE? THERE in the middle of all of that snow are actually TWO HORSES…yeah thanks for the back blanket thing, but honestly with snow completely covering the legs is the blanket really doing any good? Someone please tell me horses are ok in all of that, cuz I was feeling really bad for them.
Snow-play-day-7203
Snow-play-day-7120And last but not least…loved all the beautiful icicles!

Little Nathan

Since his mama is having a birthday today, probably her best and most sleep deprived birthday to date, I thought it might be fitting to share some of the adorable pictures of her new favorite person! We took Nathan’s pictures at just 4 days old and although we photographed WELL into the night, he was a great little model!

Happy Birthday Sally…I hope the early present you got this year gives you an easy day!

Because we all know photos can be stressful!

Most every parent has been there…you plan the photo session, pick the perfect outfits and dream about the gorgeous images you MIGHT get if all variables pan out…weather, kids cooperation, husband cooperation (yes they need it too), lighting, time of day etc. But then it happens…tears, falls, injuries, chaos of being kids and you think to yourself, “that was all just a big waste of time!”
IMG_8991
After having to reschedule at least 3 or 4 times with this family because of RAIN…I mean really, it NEVER rains here and we’ve had to cancel our session so many times…I was finally able to meet up with the Joe and Emily and their kids this morning and even despite what the stressed Mommy thinks after our session, I wanted to get a sneak peek on here so she can see that we DID IN FACT get some images for her to work with! More to come in another week or so =)

This little guy is 3 weeks older than my Emery and in his PRIME “can’t get my picture I want to be down and run and ignore you calling my name” two year old stage. It’s not fun…but look at this, we got him, if only for a moment and I’m pretty sure his Mom might really love this precious shot!
IMG_9061
He also tends to love puddles…I had to encourage this one at the end of our session even though his parents weren’t so sure knowing it would erupt in tears for the wetness and mud that would follow…I’m pretty sure these shots are worth the complaints and half naked ride home =)
IMG_9314 IMG_9327
And check out this cutey! Little Colby is the sweetest thing and even though he’s coming up on the “tries too hard and doesn’t quite get the smile out” stage…we caught this moment and I think he just looks SO DANG HANDSOME!! It helps that he is such a sweet boy!
IMG_8996
Thanks you two!
